The Department of English started functioning in the college in 1990, when English was introduced as Part II subject for the Afsal ul Ulama programme. Presently English is taught as mandatory common course for all UG programmes offered by the college (BA Afsal ul Ulama, B.A Functional Arabic, B.A Economics) and as Part II subject for the Afsal ul Ulama preliminary course.
In addition to the classroom instruction of the syllabi , the Department organises lectures, debates, workshops, seminars, quizzes and other programmes. The English Club, a collective of the anglophile students, also organises various programmes and activities with an objective to enhance the language competency of the students and instil confidence in them to use the language for communication with fluency and accuracy. The activities also aim at fostering creative thinking, debating and creative writing skills in the students.
